Discovering An Excellent Restaurant In Pau

I have just transferred to Pau and love it. However, as with every new home, there are some things which you have to search for and discover as a high priority and a good restaurant in Pau was high on my list of things to find.

After you have a roof over your head and comfortable bed the next thing is to put together a quality of life. In my books, quality of life is defined by 2 things; company and food (with a glass of wine of course). I also find that the two tend to go together. A good meal is always improved if you are in good company, just as good company will normally lead to the discovery and experience of many good meals.

So, how did I start my search for a good restaurant in Pau? Well, I started with the bars. I wanted to know what sort of people lived here. I wanted to understand who were the driving force of the market. I have to know if I was in a town of old folk who frequented cafes or is a town influenced by live music and social life which roared into the early hours. The great, as well as surprising news, is that I found everything. Literally, take for example, the Boulevard des Pyrenees. If you sit outside of one of these bars for an entire day and evening, (which of course I have made) you will see representatives of every age and rank of the Pau life.

So then I must decide what to attempt first. A short chat with the bar man gave me a bit of a feel for the place. He was English and had lived here for 5 years. He was warm and friendly and told me everything from the right spots to take a girl on a first date, down to the best areas for a hangover cure.

I soon realised that I didn't actually want to check every restaurants of Pau alone, so I loitered in the bar slightly longer, wondering how I was going to create a social group. However, while I was wondering, it was being built for me. The bar man finished his shift at nine, and was meeting a couple of pals, before I knew it was were all sitting in a small Italian in the center of the old town.

These people are now my best friends in Pau and together we have tried everything from the cafes to the Michelin star restaurants, and this is where I found my way to a great restaurant in Pau. As I said, good company and good restaurants go together.
